I am an absolute sucker for drawing mountain goats, they are such otherworldly beasts with their fluffy white fur and horns!

When I was researching illustrations to go along with North Cascades National Park it really reminded me of so many of the places I’ve been able to hike and recreate on here in Canada. I am so angry that the frump administration does not recognize the non-economic value of these places (and yes, I recognize the Canadian government also struggles with this too)

Protected land need to remain protected for the sake of the environment and our future hikers.

Oof. It’s a tough time to live on earth and I’ve really been feeling it lately.

I have however found a lot of solace in quilting. I’ve been finding the methodical approach exactly what I’ve been needing these days.
Pressing, cutting, pressing, sewing, pressing, sewing… it makes so much more sense than most other things.

I’ve been working on this little table runner which just needs the binding to be hand stitched.
Last week I made some throw pillow cushions that I’m proud of… I’ve also made potholders that didn’t turn out but I still learned from regardless.

It’s been difficult to sit down and draw and paint but I think I am needing to make a concerted effort to show up to my drawing practice and get out of my slump.

A cozy detail from a small commission project I did this past fall. (And some other recent photos)

It’s been hard to not feel insignificant in the wake of recent events. I’ve been at a loss of what to post and if I should.
But aside from sharing occasional things in my stories, what have I been up to this month? Honestly, I’ve been trying to lean into rest during this time of year and prioritize different forms of self care:
- I caught up on some loose ends in my neglected admin and bookkeeping.
- Getting outside for walks or skis in the snow (or ice) and enjoying the ever so slightly longer days.
- Ben is the owner of a shiny new mountain sled so he took me out into the mountains last week to brap around the alpine.
- We bought a sewing machine secondhand a while ago but hadn’t taken it out until this month. I’ve been learning to sew and last week I took a two day beginner’s quilting class where I made a quilted table runner.
- Lots of snuggles with Heidi
- Sleeping in.
- Working with my naturopath to improve my energy levels.

I’ve just updated my online shop and have been so torn as to whether to do it or wait until shipping hellscape stabilizes. 
Canada Post, which is usually the most cost effective shipping option for small businesses has been on strike since November 15th.
I wholeheartedly support the strike and am in favour of living wages and improved conditions for its postal workers, however, it has lead to sky rocketing prices and gouging with all other courier services. (Not to mention the USPS not accepting Canadian parcels for the time being due to volume)
I have also made the decision to make it easier on myself and just ship to Canada and the USA for the time being.

I know certain *corporations* offer free shipping and no delays but PLEASE shop local where you can, small businesses are needing it more than ever this year and holiday season.
Honestly, I am in favour of you spending your money locally and in your community as opposed to on my online shop.

If you are local to Prince George and the surrounding area I do offer free local pickup @dandylinespg here in Prince George.

You can also request to order my children’s books through your local indie book seller!!

I just received my illustrator copies of 🌲50 True Tales from Our Great National Parks🌲 and couldn’t resist snapping a few very staged but very cute pictures of it to share with you!

It’s always such a great feeling to hold a physical copy in your hands but this one is especially exciting! This was the largest and most challenging book I’ve ever worked on at over 120 pages of illustrations (many with multiple per page)!
Not only did I learn a lot about America’s National Parks but I learned a lot about my own artistic practice and putting more faith in my intuition under tight deadlines.

I’m very grateful to have worked on this with the team @wideeyededitions and @stephaniepearson and my agent @emilyvanbeek @foliojr to bring this book into existence!

We went on a little camping / bird hunting trip this past week. Heidi and Ben were both in their element hunting for grouse together…while I trailed behind 😅. I really am not into the hunting side of these trips but it’s hard to be TOO grumpy when you’re in such beautiful areas and Heidi looks so blissful.

We went on a little camping / bird hunting trip this past week. Heidi and Ben were both in their element hunting for grouse together…while I trailed behind 😅. I really am not into the hunting side of these trips but it’s hard to be TOO grumpy when you’re in such beautiful areas and Heidi looks so blissful.

Ben, Heidi and I all went out to pick wild blueberries to celebrate the autumn equinox on Sunday. We got so so many blueberries, they were literally falling off of their branches. 👀

We also went out for a little walk after and looked at many cute mushrooms. 🍄 ❤️

There’s been lots of pottery making these days in preparation for holiday markets and online shop updates.

Ben, Heidi and I spent last week on the road: through canyons, up mountains, down valleys and along the coast.
We hit the road and headed down to Bella Coola. We had never been there before although it has been on our list for several years.
British Columbia never fails to amaze me with the variety and vastness of the different terrain we are able to experience.  On another (but very fitting note) September 3 marked my 31st Birthday and was also shared by the official publication day for the latest book I illustrated:
50 True Tales from Our Great National Parks, written by @stephaniepearson published by @quartokids @wideeyededitions
I haven’t had the joy of holding this book in my hands quite yet but you better believe that I’ll share it with you once I do!

Today I’m settling back into the studio and later in the week will also be working on some pottery.

First tomato harvest of the season, featuring lots of fun and colourful little guys 🍅 💛

We seem to be behind on the tomato front this year. June ended up being a very cold and wet month, but I’m still grateful to be getting some little bounties before fall really hits!
